Merkules Biography 

Merkules (birth name: Cole Stevenson) was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on 27 September 1992, but his family later decided to move to Surrey, Canada where he grew up and went to high school. From an early age, Stevenson was passionate about hip-hop music and often used to rap verses of other rappers, the first ever tape he owned by Merkules as a kid was “Restless” by XZIBIT. As a kid, he looked up to numerous rappers in the music industry such as Eminem, Drake, 50 Cent, and more. 

Stevenson went to a “Snak the Ripper” a Canadian rapper’s concert when he was 16 years old. He considered Snak one of his favorite artists of all time and was able to meet the rapper at the concert. The two eventually began bonding and ended up collaborating. Merkules hit the studio for the first time with rapper Snak and began taking music more seriously. At first, Stevenson took the name Merk Mikz as his rapping name but later changed it to Merkules. He released a few songs in 2012 and 2013 titled “Bacon Bits,” “Canadian Bacon,” and “Hunger Pains” which gave Merkules a little bit of recognition.

But his major recognition in the music industry came when he began posting his songs on YouTube. In 2023, he had 1.57 Million subscribers on YouTube with more than 810 Million views. He has gained fame on YouTube through his covers of numerous artists, his most viewed video is “Old Town Road Remix” by Lil Nas X Billy Ray Cryus which has 60 Million views. While his second most viewed video is a cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You Remix” by Merkules which has 52 Million views. In 2016, he released his album called “Scars” which is highly inspired by an incident that took place when Merkules was 16 years old and was attacked and stabbed by a stranger when he was walking back home at night. Merkules released an album titled “Apply Pressure” in 2020 under his label called Merkules Music and BMG. Merkules later took a two-year hiatus and didn’t release any album or single. After the hiatus, he finally released a new single called “I’m Here” on Death Row Records.

Merkules has recently announced the rapper will be starting a mini tour in 2023 through Ontario this fall. Merkules’ “No Place Like Home” tour will include three cities: Toronto, Ontario – (Phoenix Concert Theatre) on 21 September, St. Catharines – (Moose & Goose) on September 22, and finally Kitchener – (The Hub) on 23 September. Merkules has been teasing new music for weeks and finally released a remix track of Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” this past week. The last two albums by Merkules were released back in 2020 and since then the Canadian rapper has released a few singles but with the mini tour happening in the fall, fans can finally have a moment to enjoy the Merkules music live.
